My husband and I don’t get out much, as we have three kids and are stingy about paying for babysitters. However, there is a local band that I’ve been meaning to catch and was pleasantly surprised to find out they’d be the entertainment after a 5K I was participating in.
I’ll give you a little background information. My uncle is the band’s lead guitarist, and I’m always willing to support family and friends if I can.
Rising Phoenix, local to the central Wisconsin area, was formed a couple of years ago by seasoned, talented musicians. They are an 1980’s hard rock and metal band, and they, well, rock.
It was an outdoor venue, and much of the crowd bailed after the walk/run, which was disappointing for the band, I’m sure. Disclaimer: there were no activities planned for the families except food and music, so I can see why people with kids left. We, however, were hungry and had kids who wanted to dance.
While waiting in line for our shaved ice, one of my boys and I rocked out to Poison, Bon Jovi, Alice in Chains, and Dio. (Okay, it was swaying in line and very quietly singing as others were in line too, but if beer had been involved, I would certainly have been a little more enthusiastic.) Even though we were only there for a brief time, and I was busy chasing kids and eating, I thoroughly enjoyed the music. I would have to say my favorite was their cover of Bon Jovi’s “Dead or Alive.” I realize not everyone loves hair metal, but it was awesome. It sounded like the vinyl I used to play over and over.
The goal, now that I’ve seen them once, is to find them playing in a bar so I can enjoy the music kid-free, while drinking a beer. They are definitely worth seeing again and again. To find out more about them, where they’ll be next, or follow them on the web, check out Rising Phoenix on Facebook. I promise you won’t be disappointed!
